We are utterly aware of the fact that we have been relatively silent on the interwebs the past months. But rest assured! The band is not dead, nor are we planning to slowly fade away into the obscure annals of metal! However, we have gone through a rather tumultuous period of which we are only now slowly recovering.
First of all, Gert, our long-time companion and lead guitarist, no longer is a part of Valkyre. Different future prospects had driven a wedge between him and Valkyre, which resulted in his departure in march. Knowing Gert as the skilled guitarist he is, we do not doubt you will hear more from him in the future.
Thankfully, the metal gods have blessed us with Erik, a more-than-capable lead guitarist that will accompany us from now on. Our songs can only benefit from his erotically wide vibrato, ferocious pinch harmonics, and kinky arpeggio sweeps.
On a more positive note, Carolien recently announced that she successfully concluded the act of mating with her husband Yves. As joyous as this occasion might be, her womb demands a whole lot of energy to be able to spawn such an undoubtedly awe-inspiring descendant. Carolien therefore had to take some time off from the band. We urge you not to worry though, Carolien will be back! Moreover, we feel her freshly gained maternal instincts can only contribute further to her amazing vocal abilities.
For the months to come, Claudia Michelutti, will temporarily take up the vocal duties in the band. Those of us in the scene may know Claudia as a former band member of Natan. She has also helped out quite some bands as a session vocalist on several occasions. In other words, Claudia is the ideal answer to our peculiar situation and we’re looking forward to having her at our side for some gigs in the near future.
As you can see, this has been quite a lot for the band to process. But the take-home message is clear, we’re still going strong and we’ve got a gig coming up on the 13th of August! So we hope to see you all again soon!
Valkyre is getting to full force again, as we welcome Nele Colle as our new keyboard player! For years Nele has been providing the symphonic tones and orchestral arrangements in Willow's Whisper, and her playing seamlessly fits the Valkyre sound.
Valkyre is reinforced by another stellar musician. Peter Van Sweevelt joins the band as our new drummer!
We're happy to welcome Tom Everaert as our new bass player! Tom is one hell of a bass player, being capable of delivering more than just the fundaments of our songs. Stay tuned for more updates...
A personal message from Gaelle:
Dear friends, After careful consideration, I've decied to leave Valkyre. In few monthes I'm going to enter in the working life and for my first job, I will be crossing some borders again and move away from Belgium. Valkyre has been such a great and unforgettable experience, I really had a lot of fun on and out of stage. I would like to thank each person who has support and help us during all those years. I wish the best to Kris, Gert and Carolien. See you on the road...
Due to tinnitus our bassplayer Fred has to stop musical activities. Since our concert in B52, Eernegem Fred has encountered auditive problems. Even after medical treatment this could not be resolved therefore Fred decided to quit the band as a musician. He will still be active ‘behind the scenes’ but no longer on stages with loud music. A personal statement will follow later.
